What is included in the second opinion consultation?
A board-certified staff physician who specializes in your condition will review all of your information and author a comprehensive second opinion report. In some cases, the physician will consult with colleagues regarding your case prior to completing the second opinion.

The report will include:

  • A review of the diagnosis (and an updated diagnosis, if applicable)
  • Answers to all of your submitted questions
  • A review of treatment options and alternatives
  • Information regarding clinical trials (if available)
If your diagnosis involves a pathology reading, a Cleveland Clinic pathologist who specializes in your condition will review the submitted slides. These results will be included in your second opinion report.

We understand that you may have more questions after reviewing your second opinion report. That's why we give you the option to submit three questions in response. Your questions will be answered and posted as an addendum to your report within your secure MyConsult account.
How do I request a second opinion? (five-step MyConsult Process)

MyConsult was created as a five-step process to ensure that we receive all of the information needed to create comprehensive second opinion report.

To request an online second opinion from Cleveland Clinic, you will first need to select a condition from the Search Conditions section of this website. Once you've selected a condition, you will then be asked to register to use our secure site, establishing a secure username and password for the MyConsult website.

  1. Requestor and Patient Information
Patients are able to authorize a requestor to complete the MyConsult process on their behalf.

  2. Medical Questionnaires
Along with completing two questionnaires regarding your general medical history and history related to your diagnosis, you also will be able to submit the top three questions you would like answered in the second opinion report.

  3. Required Materials
In this step, you will collect and submit all of the required medical records, images, test results and consent forms. We also offer a convenient medical record collection service through Health Advocate.

  4. Payment
Due to nationwide insurance regulations regarding second opinions, the MyConsult program is not covered by insurance or Medicare. We accept payment by most major credit cards or certified U.S. bank check or money order.

  5. Final Submission
You will be able to review all of the information you have submitted prior to sending your request to the MyConsult Clinical Operations team.
