Guilherme Oliveira M.D.

Guilherme H Oliveira, MD, is a staff cardiologist in the Section of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Medicine in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart and Vascular Institute. He is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Oliveira specializes in the diagnosis and management of cardiomyopathies and advanced heart failure therapies such as heart transplants and mechanical circulatory support. In addition, Dr. Oliveira is an expert in cardio-oncology, preventing and treating cardiovascular complications of cancer therapies.

Dr. Oliveira was named to the Cleveland Clinic staff in 2010. Prior to his appointment he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiology, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Instructor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He was a 2010 finalist of the James S. and Suzanne Cyrus Scholar Award for Clinical Research, Division of Internal Medicine at MD Anderson. His other previous positions include private cardiologist at Henlopen Cardiology and Beebe Medical Center, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and associate staff at Hospital Barra D'Or in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Dr. Oliveira is a graduate of the Faculdade Nacional De Medicina, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He served his residency in internal medicine at the Hospital Universitario Clementino Fraga Filho and a second internal medicine residency at Mayo Clinic Rochester, during which he earned the Mayo Clinic Internal Medicine Residency Outstanding Research Award.

After completing his residency at Mayo Clinic, Dr Oliveira served a fellowship in cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston followed by a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant at Baylor and Methodist DeBakey Heart Center. While at Baylor he received the 2005 Jay N. Cohn New Investigator Award from the Heart Failure Society of America.

Dr. Oliveira has published more than three dozen peer-reviewed original research articles and abstracts, ten chapters in medical textbooks and is Editor-in-Chief of the Mayo Clinic Medical Manual. He is an editorial reviewer for the American Journal of Cardiology, Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology, Journal of Cardiac Failure, PLOS one and Cancer Journal. A frequent lecturer and invited speaker, he has made presentations at numerous national and international scientific meetings, including the prestigious American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Sessions and American Heart Association Annual Session.

Dr. Oliveira is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, Heart Failure Society of America, Sociedad Interamericana de Cardiologia and Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia.
